(November 17, 2005- New York) Perry Rubenstein Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of photography by Lina Bertucci. This will be Bertucci's first solo show in New York. Bertucci's more illustrious photographs capture landscape's disparity, revealing nature's dual character as both a transcendental spirit and a psychological reflection of the mind. Unique to this exhibition, Bertucci departs landscape for portraiture, photographing numerous artists in intimate and often private settings.
Beginning in 1988, Bertucci photographed numerous New York artists early in their careers, including Maurizio Cattelan, Gabriel Orozco and Wolfgang Tillmans. Focusing on the emerging artist as her subject, Bertucci has created a body of work that captures the artist and reveals their unique psychology. For Bertucci, these portraits offer dissolution between the psyches interior and exterior, using the surroundings and the artist to convey their complex dispositions. These portraits collectively present a curious context of contemporary artists and New York City as their common affiliation.
In the exhibition at Perry Rubenstein Gallery, Bertucci will include over fifty silver gelatin and chromagenic prints.
Bertucci lives and works in New York City. Bertucci completed her M.F.A in photography at Pratt Institute in New York and received her B.F.A from the University of Wisconsin. Bertucci in known extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, and has published work in Vogue, Armani and LIFE magazine and has published a black & white documentary series, Railroad Voices with narrative by Linda Nieman.
