Perry Rubenstein Gallery in Los Angeles: On The Edge of America, On The Brink Of The World

Perry Rubenstein Gallery is excited to announce that it has found its new home in Los Angeles; a city of iconoclasts, image-makers, and the culture machine. We are excited to be here in this city of culture makers and culture breakers, at the center of which is the fertile and working artistic and creative community. We have come to the living, breathing contradiction that is LA, the oil field disguised as paradise. LA is a place of potential and promise, invention and metamorphosis—a hub of high creative endeavor like no other city in America, on the very brink of the western world, and the touch point to a global artistic community.

Freedom in Los Angeles

We honor and recognize the critical role of the artist in Los Angeles in the synthesis, interpretation and transmutation of that which is our world and our environment, and we are here to join and support that artistic community. LA is a city that doesn’t impose itself. A city, which in its sprawl and openness “allows”, doesn’t restrict, and expects the viewer to create the narrative himself, without imposing its own narrative on the viewer; a city that provides a dangerous and fertile freedom to create. We embrace that freedom and are here to be a part of the artistic future of LA, to adopt and to support that future, and to grow with it.

The Heart of Hollywood

Perry Rubenstein Gallery is located in the heart of Hollywood, in the Hollywood both past and present, aware of its history and its future. We are in the time machine, in the surreal world where only streets away Man Ray played chess and Salvador Dali painted, where Thomas Mann wrote “Doctor Faustus”, where Arnold Schoenberg played tennis with Harpo Marx. We are in the birthplace of the modernism of Neutra and Schindler; where seekers of fame and asylum have flocked to the “beautiful hell” so deemed by Bertold Brecht in his exile in LA.

We are here to join in the creative dialog that is forever rising out of the city of perpetual youth and renewal, magic and illusion. What is Los Angeles? A place that more than any other has captured and created our collective cultural history through the medium of film and music, and has transcended the boundaries of its location on the brink of the world, to create the next, the new, the future. We are here in Los Angeles, a place that is nowhere and everywhere at the same time, to join in the creative dialog that arises from that freedom, and to explore the potential of a city whose history is still being written, and to be a part of that history.

Our migration is complete. Our vision is set. Our work begins now. We are here for the artist. We are here to listen to the artist, to dialog with the artist, and to the support the artists of Los Angeles.
